Content is our strategy & our strategy is contentThis is a featured page

I heard this from a colleague of mine - he was getting chewed out for looking at "new" ways of sharing knowledge in his company. He was really keen to start a pilot project using Network Analysis to understand what some of the roadblocks were in his group, to sharing knowledge. As much as he tried to get support within his own knowledge management team, his requests were falling on deaf ears. Most of his fellow KM managers had little interest in tools outside of their mandate to collect content, tag it and put it into the company knowledge portal. This led him to take his efforts underground. He successfully ran a network analysis on the team that he was working with and found that they were numerous opportunities to better connect - most not involving the company knowledge portal. When he presented these findings, word got out that he was doing some interesting work in the knowledge space. His boss got wind of it and subsequently warned him not to pursue such activities, as they were a time consuming waste of his energy and not in line with knowledge sharing for the company where to quote: "Content is our strategy & our strategy is content".

I wonder if this is something that is common or a one off situation - what would you do - go back and sit in your box, appeal to a higher authority, leave and look for another job......
