From my perspective, the best learnings come from hearing about what other's experiences have been, the roadblocks faced, and how they have approached knowledge sharing.

We all come from different backgrounds, have unique perspectives and insights which are valuable to others - so why not share them? You never know when they might come in use to convince others of the value of your ideas.

I don't know about you, but I am always looking for good anecdotes to share which show that "we are not alone" that others are undertaking similar initiatives or have tried and moved on.
This is an experiment which I hope will work - if you have read "The Wisdom of Crowds" you will understand that diversity of opinion is key. I certainly hope you are willing to share your anecdotes which others can embrace in meaningful ways. This is meant to be "open source" so feel free to share and use. However, it would be appreciated if you can acknowledge the source and point people back to this wiki - the more community we get - the richer the pool of anecdotes!

Also feel free to drop me a line with feedback / suggestions (chrisfletch@optushome.com.au) or visit my blog and do likewise (http://adventurekm.typepad.com)

Below is a starting point to categorise our anecdotes - feel free to modify or change the structure

Content Culture Networks

Content

Do you have any anecdotes about content? He was really keen to start a pilot project using Network Analysis to understand what some of the roadblocks were in his group, to sharing knowledge. As much as he tried to get support within his own knowledge management team, his requests were falling on deaf ears. Most of his fellow KM managers had little interest in tools outside of their mandate to collect content, tag it and put it into the company knowledge portal. This led him to take his efforts underground. He successfully ran a network analysis on the team that he was working with and found that they were numerous opportunities to better connect - most not involving the company knowledge portal. When he presented these findings, word got out that he was doing some interesting work in the knowledge space. His boss got wind of it and subsequently warned him not to pursue such activities, as they were a time consuming waste of his energy and not in line with knowledge sharing for the company where to quote: "Content is our strategy & our strategy is content".

I wonder if this is something that is common or a one off situation - what would you do - go back and sit in your box, appeal to a higher authority, leave and look for another job......

Networks

There is no abstract available for this page revision.

Culture

There is no abstract available for this page revision.
